Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 October 2024 Outline
Everybody wants to be recognised, to be given honour and prestige. It is the disease of the age. People acquire all sorts of titles and advertise themselves, and they make sure that their good deeds are widely known while their wrongdoings are properly covered up. It is not a new disease. King Saul suffered from the same affliction. What was he doing in v.12?
As Christians we should always have the ambition to excel in whatever position we have, to the honour and glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). The main sin of the people who built the Tower of Babel was that they were seeking a name for themselves and not to the glory of their Creator God (Genesis 11:4). Every generation has their own “Tower of Babel,” but as Christians, A\Z we have to be different. Can you think of examples of how this would apply to our lives?
God values obedience more than sacrifices or services and partial obedience is no obedience as far as God is concerned (vs.18-23). Note Saul’s confession in v.24. Was his excuse tenable, being the king that God gave the instructions? Observe God’s judgment in vs.28-29 and Saul’s main desire when this was relayed to him (v.30). God allows no vacuum in His service and no person is indispensable.
Practice/Word Application
So what? Let us determine to always obey God in His Word, completely.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Lord, please grant me a heart that obeys you completely.
